Our Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships offer funding awards to international students across a variety of postgraduate taught programmes.

Awards between £3,500 to £10,000 will be awarded to eligible postgraduate-taught students and will be offered in the form of a tuition fee discount.

Qualifying criteria

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Submitting your application to the University by the date specified for your intake in the terms and conditions.

  • Accepting your offer and paying any applicable deposit by the date specified for your intake in the terms and conditions, unless your deposit deadline is after this date, in which case, your deposit must be paid by your initial deposit deadline and your offer accepted within 14 days of it being made.

  • Holding an offer for an eligible postgraduate taught course.

  • Meeting the conditions of your offer (if applicable) by the date specified for your intake in the terms and conditions.

Conditional Offer Holders

You must submit your application to the University by 7 January 2025 (or 19 December 2024 for MSc Data Science and Analytics).

  • You must accept your offer and pay your deposit by 7 January 2025 (or 19 December 2024 for MSc Data Science and Analytics) unless your deposit deadline is after this date, in which case, your deposit must be paid by your initial deposit deadline and your offer accepted within 14 days of it being made.

  • You must meet all the offer conditions, including any English Language conditions as stated in your offer by 7 January 2025 (or 19 December 2024 for MSc Data Science and Analytics).

  • Applicants who do not meet the conditions of their offer will not be eligible for the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, even if they are accepted into the University.

Unconditional Offer Holders

  • You must submit your application to the University by 7 January 2025 (or 19 December 2024 for MSc Data Science and Analytics).

  • You must accept your offer and pay your deposit by 7 January 2025 (or 19 December 2024 for MSc Data Science and Analytics) unless your deposit deadline is after this date, in which case, your deposit must be paid by your initial deposit deadline and your offer accepted within 14 days of it being made.

  • You must meet the original admissions criteria for your programme. Applicants who do not meet the original admissions criteria will not be eligible for the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, even if they are accepted into the University.

All students

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is available to eligible students studying on selected Postgraduate Taught degree programmes.

  • A full list of eligible postgraduate programmes is available online. Programmes not shown in this list are not included in the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship scheme.

  • Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma awards are not included in the scheme.

  • No separate application for the scholarship is required. If you are holding an offer for an eligible programme and meet the criteria as set out in these terms and conditions, you will automatically be awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship upon enrolment.

Terms and Conditions

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is a £3,500 award (award may be £6,000 or £10,000 in selected countries) applied to students entering into year 1 of a programme. It is applied to your first year of study only.

    • This will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount only and cannot be used in place of any required deposit. No cash alternative is available.

    • Scholarships of £3,500 will be awarded to students from Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, USA and Zambia when defined as being domiciled in one of these countries in your course application.

    • Scholarships of £6,000 will be awarded to students from Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Jordan, Kenya, Mexico, Pakistan and Taiwan when defined as being domiciled in one of these countries in your course application.

    • Scholarships of £10,000 will be awarded to students from Bangladesh or Nigeria when defined as being domiciled in one of these countries in your course application.

    • Domicile is defined as where you have been ordinarily resident for three years or longer before the start of the course. This does not include where you are living for study purposes should you be studying outside of the place where you are otherwise ordinarily resident.

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is for entry into Cardiff University in January 2025 only and cannot be used any other year of entry.

    • If you are awarded a scholarship and wish to defer your entry to the University your scholarship will not be transferred. However, you will be eligible to apply for scholarships applicable for 2025/26 entry.

    • If you are a deferred offer holder, you must have met the standard entry criteria for your programme for January 2025 entry to be considered for the scholarship.

  • Future requests for further funding will not be considered under this scheme.

  • Applicants who are in receipt of any other scholarship, bursary, funding or discount will not be eligible for this Scholarship.

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is available for full-time and Cardiff campus-based taught programmes only.

  • You must be confirmed as an Overseas Student for fee-paying purposes (this information is contained in your offer letter*).

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is only available to self-funded students.

    • If you are in receipt of funding (consisting of either tuition fees or tuition fees and living costs) from an external body which will be invoiced by the University for fees (such as Government, charity or a private organisation) you are not eligible for the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship. Students in receipt of educational loans are eligible for the award.

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is not available for students who are coming to study at Cardiff University for a semester or full year as part of a degree at another institution.

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is not available to students who are initially awarded the scholarship but, following enrolment at the University, subsequently transfer to an academic programme which is not eligible for the award of the scholarship.

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship is not available for students coming to study at Cardiff University via a partnership or progression agreement with their home institution.
